HISTORY OF THE ART PROJECT

“HERITAGE OF BELARUS”

2003

The first presentation of the art project “Heritage of Belarus” was held in the Museum of Modern Art in Minsk,

where from March 5 until April 12, three photo exhibitions were presented: “Temples”, “Palaces and Castles”, “Manors and the town halls”.

 

From April 22 until May 30, the photo exhibition “Heritage of Belarus” was presented in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

During the exhibition opening Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Aliaksandr Herasimenka said:

The project you are getting familiarized with can be essentially regarded as a unique one. It is an endeavour to demonstrate all the beauty and significance

of the masterpieces of history and architecture of Belarus. This project makes it possible to take a fresh look at Belarus, to reveal interesting historical facts

 in the life of our country and its people. I hope that the photo exhibition that is brought to your attention will be a new milestone on the road towards the preservation,

 revival and popularization  of the historical and cultural assets and heritage of Belarus.

 

From June 9 until June 15, the art project “Heritage of Belarus” was made known to Armenian viewers.

More than 200 photos were presented in the House of the Artists’ Union of Armenia in Yerevan timed to coincide with

 the 10th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Armenia.  The photo exhibition was opened by

the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Mr. Vardan Askanyan, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in Armenia, Maryna Dauhapolava.

 

From July 12 until September 2, the photo exhibition “Heritage of Belarus” was housed in the Viciebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore,

 from September 5 until November 10 — in the House-Museum of Repin in Zdraŭniova.

 

Since September the First National TV Channel of the National TV and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus started to broadcast

a new weekly programme “Our Heritage” as part of the art project “Heritage of Belarus.”

 

2004

In May the photo exhibition "Heritage of Belarus, dialogue of cultures" was displayed in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris (France)

on the event of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Belarus membership in UNESCO.

Opening the exhibition, the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura, said: “Since time immemorial, the State of Belarus

has been at a crossroads of civilizations, cultures and religions.  I am sure that the photographic exhibition “Heritage of Belarus”

will be an opportunity to discover the new meaning that cultural dialogue has taken

and will demonstrate the cultural and spiritual diversity of Belarus for the international community.”

 

In June the permanent photo exhibition “Heritage of Belarus”, the authors gift to the town, was formally opened in the Palace of Tyzenhauz in Pastavy.

 

On September 8, the layout of the album “Heritage of Belarus” was commissioned for publication in 3,000 copies.

 

In October the art project “Heritage of Belarus” was presented in Rome during the holding of the Days of Culture of Belarus in Italy.

 The photo exhibition was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Uladzimir Drazhin. The presentation of the album “Heritage of Belarus” took place there too.

 

On October 25, in Vatican, the authors gave the Pope John Paul II the album “Heritage of Belarus” as a present.

 In return the authors received a letter with the blessing of the Pope:

I am thankful for the generous gesture of gifting to His Holiness an interesting book “Heritage of Belarus”

 that contains information on the historical, cultural and religious sites in various regions of Belarus and marvellous photo illustrations.

Wishing to thank you for the gift and the gracious words you addressed to him, His Holiness prays for peace and prosperity of Christianity

and is greatly pleased to convey his blessing and heartfelt greetings to you and your nearest and dearest.

 

In November the authors embark on the preparation of a new album “Heritage of Belarus. Treasures.”

 

On November 12, the album “Heritage of Belarus” was presented in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

In his introductory address, the Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Uladzimir Rusakevich, underscored that

This book is opening up Belarus to the world community. We do have much to show at international book fairs.

We do have many things to replenish the intellectual treasure trove of the people: modern editions of the highest spiritual value.

 The edition we are presenting today is just one of them. I am convinced that it depends upon every one of us —

 whether there will more such projects or similar ones, whether the reserve of the people’s spiritual power, its centuries-old culture will always be full and inexhaustible.”

 

From November 14 until December 20, the photo exhibition “Heritage of Belarus” was on display in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

 

Materials of the art project “Heritage of Belarus” are used for the preparation of the dossier

for submission to the monuments of Niaśviž town for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

 

2005

On January 7, the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko, bestowed

the Prize “For Spiritual Revival” on the authors of the album “Heritage of Belarus” Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich.

 

On January 2425, the 45th Nation-wide Book Art Competition was taking place.

For the first time after the year of 1990, the jury decided to grant the highest prize of the competition — Francysk Skaryna Diploma — to the album “Heritage of Belarus.”

 

In April the one hundredth issue of the TV programme “Our Heritage” was aired.

Thus, the authors were the first at the Belarusian Television to give such a wide and substantial coverage to the national heritage of the Belarusian people.

 

In May in Paris (France), the album “Heritage of Belarus” was gifted to the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. Koïchiro Matsuura.

 

During the year the album “Heritage of Belarus” was reprinted for the 2nd and 3rd time in 6,000 copies.

 

During their stay in Jerusalem (Israel) from December 15 until December 22,

the authors gifted the album “Heritage of Belarus” to Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem, during the audience at the Patriarchal Palace.

The Patriarch appreciated the high artistic level of the photographs and the quality of the album, and he was fascinated by the beauty of the Belarusian historical and architectural sites.

 

2006

In January the first Russian-language edition of the album “Heritage of Belarus” was put into circulation in 3,000 copies.

 

In March in Minsk all the participants of the 3rd All-Belarus People’s Assembly were gifted albums “Heritage of Belarus.”

 

Work has begun on the creation of the series of video films of the art project “Heritage of Belarus”.

The first film “Epoch of Marc Chagall” was awarded the Diploma of the Winner and the Medal of Honour for the best documentary at the 9th Eurasian TV Forum in Moscow (Russia).

 

From June 7 until June 18, during their stay in the USA, the authors gifted the album “Heritage of Belarus” to the President of the Senate of the Hawaii State, Robert Bunda.

 The album was also gifted to the Hamilton library in the University of Hawaii, as well as to the library and archives of the South California University in Los Angeles.

 

From October 3 until October 16, when visiting Chile, the authors gifted the album “Heritage of Belarus” to relatives of Ignacy Dameyko

and also to the House-Museum of Ignacy Dameyko in Santiago, to the library of Chilean University, to the archives of the Society of History and geography of Chile.

 

In December the albums were gifted to the library of Padua University in Italy.

 

2007

In JanuaryFebruary the authors gifted the album “Heritage of Belarus” to the House-Museum of Tadeusz Kosciuszko in Solothurn in Switzerland,

 to the House-Museum of Johann Goethe in Weimar in Germany.

 

From March 26 until April 5, during their stay in Japan, the authors gifted the album “Heritage of Belarus”

to the libraries of Tokyo and Kyoto Universities, and to the relatives of Nikolai Sudzilowski-Russel.

 

In May, the second Russian-language edition of the album “Heritage of Belarus” was put into circulation in 5,000 copies.

 

During the 60th Cannes Film Festival (France), the authors gifted the album

to the world-famous Polish cinematographer Andrzej Wajda, to the Russian film director Andrei Zvyagintsev.

 

In June the authors gifted the album “Heritage of Belarus” to Francysk Skaryna Library in London (Great Britain).

 

The album was gifted to Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. In his letter the Queen’s personal secretary wrote:

Her Majesty noted that this edition is a marvellous voice of Belarus, this book is a true gem which will be added to the Royal Library without delay.”

 

In July some albums were handed over to the library stock of the Czech National Library in Prague.

 

At the 64th International Venice Film Festival (Italy), the authors gifted the album “Heritage of Belarus”

to the Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov, to the Dutch film director Paul Verhoeven, to the Russian film director Alexander Sokurov,

to the French film director Catherine Breillat.

 

In October some albums were handed over to the library of Vilnius University (Lithuania), to the House-Museum of Adam Mickiewicz in Navahrudak.

 

In December the authors handed over some albums to the library stock of the University of Beijing and to the library of the Chinese Friendship-with-Foreign-Countries Society (China).

 

On December 20, the layout of the album “Heritage of Belarus. Treasures” was commissioned for publication in 3,000 copies.

 

During the year the album “Heritage of Belarus” was reprinted for the 5th and 6th time in 8,000 copies.

 

2008

On January 31, the album “Heritage of Belarus. Treasures” was presented in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus. Its circulation was 3,000 copies.

 

In February it was in London (Great Britain) that the photo exhibition and the presentation of the albums of the art project “Heritage of Belarus” was held.

The project authors Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich handed over the albums to the library of the British Museum.

 

In March the albums were gifted to Polish library in Paris and to the Museum of Mineralogy in Paris (France).

 

In April-June the art project was presented in the Homel Palace and Park Ensemble and Połack National History and Culture Reserve-Museum.

 

In August the album “Heritage of Belarus. Treasures” was acknowledged as the best one and awarded the Diploma of the 1st degree

at the 5th International Book Art Competition of the CIS countries which was held in Moscow (Russia).

 

In October 30 photos from the art project “Heritage of Belarus” were displayed

at the international exhibition “Orthodox Icons of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus” in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

On October 25, the exhibition was visited by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II who expressed profound gratitude to all the participants of the exhibition.

 

In November the art project “Heritage of Belarus” was presented at the Wilanów Museum-Palace in Warsaw (Poland).

 

Materials of the project “Heritage of Belarus” are used for the preparation of the dossier

for submission to the monuments of Połack town for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

 

2009

In March the layout of the 1st edition of the album “Treasures of Belarus” in Belarusian and Russian languages was commissioned for publication in 3,000 copies.

 

In September the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus held the photo exhibition and the presentation of the album “Treasures of Belarus”,

which was opened by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Pavel Latushko

and Chairman of the National TV and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus, Mr.  Alexander Zimouski.

 

The film “Epoch of Adam Mickiewicz” of the art project “Heritage of Belarus” was awarded the honour Diploma at the 9th Competition named Jerzy Giedroyc.

 

2010

The art project of Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich “Heritage of Belarus” was nominated for the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus

for the highly representation of historical and cultural heritage of Belarus.

 

In August the project authors Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich presented the album “Treasures of Belarus” as a gift

in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow (Russia).

 

In November the 4th edition of the album “Heritage of Belarus” was published. Circulation 5,000 copies.

 

2011

The film “Epoch. The famous unknown Ivan Khrutsky” of the art project “Heritage of Belarus”

was awarded the Diploma of the winner at the 7th National TV Contest “Televershina”.

 

2012

Finished the work under the creation of the series of video films of the art project “Heritage of Belarus” about outstanding natives of Belarus,

who have made significant contributions to the development of the world community. Created the 11 documentary films: “Epoch of Marc Chagall”, “St. Euphrosyne of Połack”,

 “Louis Mayer. Lion of Hollywood”,  “Stanisław August Poniatowski”, “Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Return of the Hero”, “Epoch of Adam Mickiewicz”, “Ignacy Dameyko”,

“Nikolai Sudzilovsky-Russel”, “Epoch. The famous unknown Ivan Khrutsky”, “Epoch of  Maksim Bahdanovič”, “Epoch of Napoleon Orda”.

 

2013

In March the 2nd edition of the book-album of Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich “Treasures of Belarus” in Belarusian and Russian languages

 was published and bound in leather with gilt edges. Circulation 1,000 copies.

 

In October the 1st edition of the book-album of Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich “Treasures of Belarus” in Russian and English languages

was published and bound in leather with gilt edges. Circulation 1,000 copies.

 

2014

In May the art project “Heritage of Belarus” was presented at the open-air art area — the fence of the Park named Chalyuskintsau (Minsk, Belarus).

The photo exhibition included 60 pictures (size 3x2 m) which were exposed until May 2015.

 

In June the 2nd edition of the book-album “Treasures of Belarus” in Russian and English languages was published

and bound in leather with gilt edges. Circulation 1,000 copies.

 

The book-album of Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich “Treasures of Belarus” was awarded the Diploma of III degree

in the nomination "My Country" at the 11th  International Competition “The Art of Book” in Moscow (Russia).

 

2015

The book-album of Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich “Treasures of Belarus” was awarded the diploma of the winner in the nomination “Photo view”

at the 54th National Competition “The Art of Book 2015” (Minsk, Belarus).

 

The photo exhibition of the art project “Heritage of Belarus” was presented at the open-air area — on the fence of All Saints Church (Minsk, Belarus).

 

In May photo exhibition “Heritage of Belarus in the UNESCO World Heritage List” was presented at the open-air art area — the fence of the Park named Chalyuskintsau (Minsk, Belarus).

 60 photos (size 3x2 m) displayed: “Biełaviežskaja Pušča (White Tower Forest)”, “Mir Castle”, “Niaśviž Palace and Park Ensemble”, “The Struve Geodetic Arc”

which inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Photo exhibition was displayed until May 2016.

 

In November the 1st edition of the book-album “Heritage of Belarus” in three languages (Belarusian, Russian and English) was published. Circulation 1,000 copies.

Total circulation of all albums of the art project “Heritage of Belarus” amounted 44,500 copies.

 

2016

On January 21–22, at the 55th National Competition “The Art of Book — 2016 (Minsk, Belarus) the prize of  the Best Book Designers were awarded to

Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich with the award of an honorary diploma of the winner and memorial sign symbol “Golden Folio”

for the design of book-albums “National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus”, “Niasvizh. Palace and park ensemble”, “Heritage of Belarus”.

 

On February 3–28,  the National History Museum of the Republic of Belarus (Minsk, Belarus) held the photo exhibition and the presentation

of new edition of the book-album of Aliaksandr Aliakseyeu and Aleh Lukashevich “Heritage of Belarus” published in three languages (Belarusian, Russian, English).

  The exhibition was opened by Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus Barys Sviatlou. Honorary guests of the exhibition were

British Ambassador to Belarus Fionna Gibb and U.S. Chargé d'Affaires to Belarus Scott Rauland.

 

From 15 March until 14 April, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus (Minsk, Belarus) held the photo exhibition and the presentation

of new edition of the book-album of “Heritage of Belarus” published in three languages (Belarusian, Russian, English)

for the diplomatic representatives of states from the world. On March 21, among the guests were 27 ambassadors from different countries on  the opening ceremony.

 

On May 21 art project "Heritage of Belarus" was presented by photo exhibition "Heritage of Belarus. Restored architectural values "

  at the open-air art area — the fence of the Park named Chalyuskintsau (Minsk, Belarus). The photo exhibition consists of 60 photographs (size 3x2 meters). It will be exposed till May 2017.

During the opening ceremony  art open-air "Heritage of Belarus" was held, where young painters, school children of College Gymnasium named I.A. Akhremchik, took participation.
